New Trust People Plan

Following the launch of the refreshed ELFT Strategy in October 2021, the People and Culture team have been focusing on the key strategic priority of improving the experience of staff. The plan takes into account new ways of working, the greater use of technology in the way staff work, growing the skills needed to ensure we have skilled and able staff for the future NHS, and the importance of the wellbeing and welfare of staff.

Tanya Carter, ELFT’s Chief People Officer, says

This feel like the right plan to take our staff and the organisation forward.By responding to the needs of our staff, both their professional needs and their wellbeing needs, they will be in a better place to support those they care for, help their colleagues and enjoy their work. I believe that if we can engender a culture of respect and care for each other – people will thrive and grow. After all, we are developing the NHS workforce of the future here! Our People Strategy sets out the stepping stones that will take us there.”

New Ways of Working

With the increased use of technology in our working lives, subsequent training needs associated with this, increased joint working with partners, creating and maintaining effective and supportive relationships has never been more important. Our relationships with one another are the way things get done so it is important to create an environment where such connections can flourish.

Looking After Our People

It is essential that staff are supported in difficult and challenging situations. It is equally important that they are also recognised and rewarded for the important work that they do. This means having the basics in place such as meaningful policies so that they know what is required of them, ensuring they are equipped to carry out their roles, supporting them and showing them appreciation. The Trust has a role in supporting them in other parts of their life highlighting how they can get support and advice with finance, purchases, legal advice, and access to more fun things.

Belonging to the NHS

As well as enhancing what we do locally, the People Plan addresses the need to play our part in raising national standards and influencing practice in areas where we have insight and can lead. This includes working towards being an anti-racist and multi-cultural organisation and ensuring equality in all our processes and opportunities.

Growing and Developing for the Future
As ELFT evolves, we need to draw in passionate people who want to help their communities, who are committed lifelong learners. The Trust aims to be a springboard to enhance the talent and skills of staff. In this way, we will develop compassionate leaders who nurture and support the workforce to provide effective care to our communities.
